DISTRIBUTION

What is a Distribution Service?

Often looked over or seen as “less important”, selecting and using a distribution service will be one of the final and most important steps in the process of releasing your project.

Now, there are a few ways to go about distributing your music to streaming services:

  1. Record Label/Direct Connection

  2. Third Party Distributor

Being that you’re reading this article, we’re going to assume you don’t have any streaming connections and you are not signed to any major label. A third party distributor is a perfect tool for up and coming content creators to distribute their projects on major streaming platforms. You submit your project to this website and through their connections, they do the work for you.

Does it cost money?

Yes. Most of these distribution websites do charge you money, they will also give you tips and other tools to make sure your project has reached its full potential. However, there are some websites that I have realized are slightly cheaper than others. Check out:

Each one of these distribution websites has its own perks so check them out and see which one will work best for you.

Is using a Distribution Service worth it?

Distribution is the most important part of the marketing process. You want to make sure that you content is on every possible streaming service it can be on to get the widest variety of audience. You’d be surprised how many extra streams you will have when you don’t just release to Apple and Spotify.

Take your time and research what streaming services you would like to be on and what ones might be more difficult to access. There is always a way.
